Back to Splinter Audio

Tools for making heavy music.

Splinter Audio is the audio-plugin brand of Pineware Oy, founded in Finland by Pauli Mänty, a guitarist, producer, and developer.

Pauli started building these tools after running into the same practical problems in heavy-guitar sessions. A guitar can sound good on its own and still need careful work to fit around the kick, bass, and cymbals.

Why Pauli started Splinter Audio

Pauli has produced Past Bedtime, Mind Confined, and Negaatio. That work keeps him close to the ordinary decisions involved in recording, mixing, and shaping heavy music.

MetalGuitarEQ grew out of those sessions. It is a focused EQ for familiar guitar problems, such as loose low end, excess fizz, and guitars that need more room in the mix. A general-purpose EQ can handle the same work; this plugin gathers a few common decisions in one place.

Music and production work

The playlist collects songs Pauli has produced, mixed, or mastered, including work with Past Bedtime, Mind Confined, and Negaatio.

How Pauli approaches these tools

Pauli makes production tools around recurring problems in metal and heavy-guitar mixes. The aim is to keep the controls understandable and the results easy to judge by ear.

  • Controls named for what the producer hears.
  • Real before-and-after audio instead of vague promises.
  • Clear compatibility and straightforward licensing.
  • Support from the company that builds and publishes the product.
