Heavy Guitars. Less Guesswork.

MetalGuitarEQ helps you tighten palm-mute bloom, clear mud, and control harshness and fizz with controls named for the problems you hear. Place it after your amp and cab, then get the guitars sitting around the kick, bass, and cymbals faster.

Negaatio — Inertia

The palm mutes carry too much low-end bloom, and the top end competes with the cymbals. MetalGuitarEQ tightens the chugs and smooths the fizz on the same rig and performance.

“Inertia” by Negaatio. Mixed and mastered by Pauli Mänty from Splinter Audio.

Switch the plugin in and out to compare the guitars against the drums and bass.

Demo song

This printed guitar tone has too much low-end bloom and boxiness. MetalGuitarEQ tightens both areas without changing the performance.

Fix the Problem You Hear.

The Tame controls replace exact frequency and dB readouts with familiar problem labels. Choose Rumble, Mud, Honk, Bite, Harshness, or Fizz, turn the control until the problem clears, and use Tilt if its center frequency needs to move.

  • Controls for rumble, mud, honk, bite, harshness, and fizz
  • Chug Control for palm-mute bloom
  • High-pass and low-pass filters for the useful guitar bandwidth
  • Presets, A/B comparison, bypass, and input and output meters

One Job for Each Part of the Plugin.

Start with the useful guitar bandwidth, reduce the problem areas you hear, tighten palm mutes, then blend and level-match the result.

MetalGuitarEQ filters section

Remove rumble and hiss

Set the high-pass and low-pass filters around the part of the guitar tone you want to keep.

MetalGuitarEQ tame section

Clear mud, harshness, and fizz

Choose the control named for the problem you hear. Use Tilt when its starting frequency needs to move up or down.

MetalGuitarEQ chug control section

Tighten palm mutes

Chug Control reduces low-mid bloom when palm mutes hit, leaving more room for the kick and bass without thinning the riff.

MetalGuitarEQ levels section

Check gain and compare settings

Input, output, and Chug reduction meters show the level at each stage. Use presets, A/B comparison, and bypass to check each decision.

MetalGuitarEQ balance section

Blend and level-match

Use Air and Mix to set the final balance, then match the output level before you compare the processed and unprocessed tone.

Place It After the Amp and Cab.

Set the amp sim and cab or IR close to the sound you want. Place MetalGuitarEQ after them to handle low-end bloom, mud, harshness, and fizz.

Guitar Amp Sim Cab or IR MetalGuitarEQ Guitar Bus or Mix

MetalGuitarEQ processes an amplified, cab-filtered guitar tone. Use an amp sim and cab loader first. Keep a general-purpose EQ for detailed corrective work.
